There once was a math teacher, and he had this idea in his mind. When a student asked him when in life they would use what they were working on, the man told him, "You'll use math everyday." Well, the child being somewhat angry, and perhaps out of his bounds refuted with a quick, "Perhaps, but when will we use this in particular." For a second the man looked, and his response was one the boy, or perhaps a little more, never really saw coming, and for a second it stunned him that he'd bring up this particular subject at all. "Well, you'll never use science or math in the real world either, so this is just one more on that list," Refuted the man quickly as he went back to the equations. Ever since that day, the boy, or you could call him me, has wondered about the exchange that day, and I have decided he wasn't quite right.
First off, science is the basis of life, everything which we do involves actions, and reactions, and to simply know that makes more capable as human beings. You'll use science in you life just as much as you ever will math for simple things that you never even expect. But then I came to the question about history, and why that was important, and for a while I think there was an agreement between us, but today I have come to an idea. So, without further ado I shall present to you the terms of why history isn't only our right as a people to know, but a social obligation to the matter.
Every man, woman, and child must come to the realisation sometime in their life that they make mistakes. It isn't their defect, it is simply a part of being the human's which we are. However, there is a part of us which learns from every mistake we have, and then perhaps more than that we learn from the shortcomings of those around us. So, ask yourself this, people of the world; is it acceptable for a man of sound mind and body to make a mistake simply because they did not look into the past? For is there any forward movement if we simply trip over the same stone over and over again? We have an obligation to those around us, to the neighbor who you rely on, to the best friend you console in, and even to the person you can't stand to be around to progress. To make strides for a world a little brighter than the day before. Whether our day is filled with clouds of disappointment, or the shine of perfection we owe it to help each other live in this world, for its the only world we have.
Someday people will look back on me, they will see all I've done and make a decision in their mind that will never change. No matter the credibility of the situation they will see me that way forever, and I have no intentions of making that image to be one I'm not proud of. Eventually someone will see me not as a kid, but someone who made a difference, even if it is just holding open the door for them when they are having a bad day, or talking to them about something stressful. Because in all honesty, no matter what we write, what we create, or what we fight for our actions will become our legacy to those that matter most. The world might see us as what we want, but if those who are close to your heart see you as a monster what have you really accomplished.
So, now I must challenge what was told to me by the teacher, for History has a place for every one. To make the decision that will last we must know what our ancestors have done, and learn from it. For it is incredibly easy for that rock to find its way under your foot.
